It is a depiction of an old soldier reflecting on the frivolity of his life before conflict. The idea for the pose came about a couple of years ago but it was only after a chat with a veteran of World War 2 that I finally got the edge I needed to push on with it. He was one of the first soldiers in to relieve the concentration camp at Belsen and what he saw has haunted him ever since. Somehow the conversation got around to what gets you started on a morning.Mine was a cup of coffee. He said he has a 9v battery by his bed and every morning he touches it on his tongue and if it doesn't open his eyes he knows either it's dead or he is. SOLD
